Wildlife of Chinnar is composed of residents, seasonal migrants and restricted species . Major mammal species are Elephants, gaur, Leopard, wild dogs, potted deer, sambar, barking deer, Macaque , wild boar etc. Grizzled giant squirrel, tufted langur etc are restricted species of South Western Ghats. Drastic altitude variations in a short distance provide high diversity of birds species. Apart from endemic shola birds, the forest is the home for many Deccan endemics and migrants which are unusual in other parts of Kerala, including blue faced malkoha, sirkir malkoha , yellow throated bulbul, grey headed bulbul etc. It is the only natural habitat of starred tortoise in Kerala. It is a heaven for aromatic plants and herbs.

Mathikettanchola National Park : Mathikettanchola National Park is located about 45kms south of Munnar. It is a southern hilltop forest with excellent biodiversity. Once these forest was under Cannabis mafia, which is reclaimed by the government recently. The abrupt end of mountains in its leeward to Theni plains offers amazing landscapes. The forest is home for many species of flora and fauna of Shola forests.

Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the west coast, 80 kms north of Cochin. These West Coast Tropical rainforest is a beautiful stretch of rainforest extending to north, south and east of Anamalais. Choimmny lake , formed after the construction of a Dam, offers excellent riparian rainforests.
