PAMPAR RIVER - AN ANCIENT MOUNTAINS STREAM
Pampar is one among three rivers flowing to east in Kerala. It is originating in Anamudi hills near Thalayar. It has 29 kms course in Kerala before crossing into Tamil Nadu. Its initial course is through shola forest and tea plantations with wooded riparian forest. The head , also called Thalayar is a fast running mountain stream. After crossing Marayur sandal wood forests, sugarcane farms and villages it falls into Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thoovanum crevice. Then the course is through wildlife zone providing perennial water to this dry forest habitat. The banks of the river are a world famous archaeological site with pre-historic cave arts, megaliths and rock cut temples. It is the only source of water to the foraging communities of the area. They use this river for water and fish, crabs etc. We offers series of riverside camps in aside the river in Marayur and Chinnar to explore its wildlife, birds, archaeological site, ethnological and ecological association etc apart from live in tranquil forest zone.
